The APL, is a 269 foot barrack barge designed by MMC to meet rigid Military and American Bureau of Shipping standards. It has welded steel hull construction with watertight inner bottom tanks, designed to allow for coastal and open-ocean towing. The full dimensions of this barge are 269 feet long, 68 feet wide and 64.4 feet high.
The barge is a non self-propelled craft and will be employed as a semi-permanently moored, floating facility capable of providing berthing and sanitary facilities for (249) personnel and messing for (1130) personnel. It also contains office, meeting, laundry, recreation spaces, as well as workout facilities. The U. S. Navy awarded MMC a contract for two of these crafts in August 1998. Both where delivered in November 2000.
