Main propulsion is from twin Caterpillar 3612 D1-TA diesels coupled to Lips 4-bladed, bronze, controllable-pitch props. Two Lips bowthrusters that produce a total of 1,070 hp. Cruising speed is approximately 14 knots. The pilothouse has complete control and monitoring ability of the pumping systems, generators, propulsion, and hydraulic systems, which permits operation with an unmanned engine room. |

The trailing suction-hopper dredge measures 315’ x 59’ x 28’. Special
features of the Liberty Island make it very versatile. Dredged material
can be placed in the 5,000-cu.-meter hopper and then discharged through
the bottom doors, or pumped from the vessel through the bow coupling.
It is fitted with a suction pipe that measures 31.5” in diameter and
a discharge pipe has a 30” diameter.
